As you know we check built in appliances in an inspection to see if it’s in proper working order. But I also like to remind people they can check for recalls on all the appliances in their home no matter how long they have lived there. In fact, there was a big recall this summer on a dishwasher that had a heating element that would not properly shut off which posed a fire hazard. The dishwasher was from Cove Appliances and those are sold in a lot of big box retailers. It affected around 42,000 built-in residential dishwashers. The company received reports of burning smells and even smoke coming from the dishwasher.

If you, or a client, would like to check for appliance recalls, just go to https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls and put in an appliance (ex: dishwashers) under search recalls. You can even do a date range if you like. If there’s a recall it will have a dedicated page that explains the recall and exactly what to do if you own that appliance.

Hope that helps provide a little more piece of mind long after we’ve performed the inspection.
